As a clinician, you know engaging male clients can be challenging. Men in Mind bridges that gap.

It instils greater confidence within you to guide male clients to open up and feel heard. Increasing the likelihood men stay, engage and get the help they need. All while you grow as a therapist.

MODULE 1

Rebranding Masculinity

  • Apply a 'gender lens' to men's behaviour in psychotherapy
  • Recognise situations where societal expectations of masculinities are enforced
  • Conceptualise men's distress in terms of gender role strain theory

MODULE 2

Your gender, your practice, your rules

  • Conduct a self-directed gender role analysis
  • Identify clinical situations where your gender socialisation may interact with your client's masculinities
  • Adapt your practice by leveraging your gender role model to male clients

MODULE 3

The hook: Engagement and motivation

  • Apply strengths based strategies to engage and motivate male clients in psychotherapy
  • Utilise strategies to assist male clients who cannot or will not describe their emotional experiences
  • Apply metaphors in psychotherapy to assist male clients to engage with their emotional experiences

MODULE 4

The depressed man

  • Recognise reasons for the differences in rates of depression diagnosis between men and women
  • Apply screening tools to effectively recognise and screen for male-type depression
  • Incorporate masculinities into a response toolkit for men's depression, across internalising and externalising symptoms

MODULE 5

The suicidal man: Saving those thousand lives

  • Recognise the role of masculinities in the development of suicidality in men
  • Identify warning signs for suicide risk in men
  • Leverage masculinities when engaging men in your intervention for suicidality
